For the first time in 96 years, America’s Cup racing is returning to New York. The Hudson River will host the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series May 7-8, 2016.

Hobie® will be there with a fleet of Waves commanded by youth sailors – part of the ambitious AC Endeavour Programme. “The goal of this community project is to utilize the power of sailing to provide unique athletic and educational opportunities to youths across all socioeconomic backgrounds, through both classroom and on-water experiences,” said Dr. Harvey Schiller, commercial commissioner for the 35th America’s Cup.

Hundreds of school children have already interacted with the AC Endeavour Programme in Bermuda. Schiller said AC Endeavour is expanding its outreach to local community programs in New York, including:

• Rocking the Boat, which empowers young people from the South Bronx by teaching them to build and sail wooden boats;

• Hudson River Community Sailing, which develops leadership and academic success in underserved New York City youth through sailing education; and,

• The New York Harbor School, which provides a college-preparatory education built upon New York City’s maritime experience.

To celebrate the return of the America’s Cup to New York and to raise funds, the AC Endeavour Programme is hosting a cocktail reception and auction at the TIME Inc. Cafe in downtown Manhattan on Thursday, April 14. Click here to RSVP.
