Imagine surfing all the way from Molokai to Oahu, an open ocean crossing of 32 miles. Epic, right? Now make it a race and call it (sensibly) the Molokai 2 Oahu Paddleboard World Championship. “Awesome,” says Hobie Stand Up rider Bullet Obra, who competed in the Team Division with fellow Hobie rider Kione Dahlin.

“It was our first run across the channel so we had no expectations. We just wanted to have a good time,” Bullet says.

Mission accomplished. But not without some challenges. Bullet tells it:

“It was overcast with passing showers so at times we had no clue where Oahu was,” he says. But the conditions were otherwise epic. “The northeast wind was blowing big ocean swells.”

The support boat captained by Less and Alex Look kept Bullet and Kione on course for Haunama Bay.

“I felt really strong the whole race. I got us off to a great start, and we worked together to finish strong and ended up the second relay team,” Bullet says.

He’d expected to finish more than five hours after setting off. Expectations exceeded: the pair came into the beach around the 4:43 mark.

The outstanding finish continued a sterling season for the Hobie Stand Up racing team.
