Thirty five boats turned out for the Santa Barbara Wine and Roses Hobie Regatta hosted by Central California based Fleet 259 and Murrays Marine. Regatta coordinator Dray Murray reports that the sailors enjoyed steady afternoon breezes in the mid to upper teens, sunny skies, and a great view of the smoke billowing up from the fire burning just over the mountain range in the Santa Ynez valley.

“The Hobie Waves made a resurgence with a fleet of 5 boats with young sailors and old sailors alike. We also had Hobie 16s, 18s, 20s and F18s,” Murray said.

Participants ranged in age from 8 to 72. “Hillersden Wine was a new sponsor this year and provided the trophies and several bottles for the silent auction. The Hobie swag bags were well received as always with participants proudly donning their Hobie hats. Wine and Roses is a charity regatta benefiting the Make a Wish Foundation, and we were able to donate $1,500 this year,” Murray said.
