August had lots of big Hobie regattas in both hemispheres. Whether it was the North American Hobie® Mini Mega, Hobie World Cat or the Fiji Challenge, each event had its own special charm. Whether it is the fleet racing, the rough conditions of the North Sea or the long distances races, all bring the sailor together amid the friendship of racing.

Thanks to Mark Santorelli for his daily reports on the North American Hobie Mini Mega. It is never an easy task to be the Race Officer then come ashore and write a daily report. His insight from the signal boat gives a different perspective.

Also to Grahame ‘Fish’ Southwick for his reports on the Fiji Hobie Challenge. To swim with manta rays, fish, cook barbecues, swim and of course sail, then write the reports is very much appreciated.

For those of you looking for a ‘challenge’ The Philippines Hobie Challenge has a good video on the IHCA Facebook page. The Challenge does much more then Hobie racing, it helps the local communities. The video explains very well what the project does.

Unfortunately, Mikkel and Peter didn’t receive their trophies at the European Hobie 16 Youth Spi in Noordwijk. They two sailors were invited back to compete at a regatta in Noordwijk. They then were presented their trophies. Well done to everyone for making sure the right podium was recognized.

Congratulations to the Royal Channel Island Yacht Club Hobie Fleet. They had an ‘Open Day’ that attracted over 50 people. There were people lined up sail a Hobie. The local fleet spent all day taking people out on the water. It was such a success they now have new members signed up. This initiative can be tried by many more Hobie fleets to attract new Hobie members. What does your Hobie fleet do to attract more members? You can share your activities on our Facebook page. Your ideas may inspire other fleets to gain new members.
