March 29, 2010 (Dana Point , CA) - In what has become a premier endurance event in the paddle community, the Ocean Ohana Catalina Challenge pitted 2, 3, and 4 man teams representing some of the best paddling talent the community has to offer. The 39.8 mile course from Catalina Island to Dana Point Harbor has at times been ruthless, but this year saw sunny skies, warm temperatures and glassy conditions. The Unlimited Hobie Team of Byron Kurt and Colin McPhillips, paddling a custom 18'6" carbon race board, hit it hard from the start and never let off the gas until the end finishing 2nd place overall and the 1st place 2 man team with a scorching time of 6hours and 39 minutes
In the 12'6 division, the 2 man team of Wally Emory and Scott Sanchez on a custom 12'6 PCX Elite finshed 2nd in their division with a time of 7hours 29 minutes shaving 20 minutes off their last years time when they competed as a 3 man team
Hobie would also like to extend it's thanks to Chuck Benson, who once again graciously lent Hobie the use of his boat Holokai
