In April, the emerald waters of Lake Tahoe shimmer in the sun. The water is so clear our Hobie kayaks seem suspended in air.

We launch at Sand Harbor, on Tahoe’s northeastern shore. Our kayaks glide between and over rounded granite boulders. We have it all to ourselves.

The air packs a chilly bite. Though the still waters are cold snowmelt, only the upper peaks of the surrounding mountains are yet frosted.

This duck doesn’t mind. Curious, it paddles alongside, its cadence nearly matching the swish of my MirageDrive.

The boulders beckon. Phil can’t resist. He unclips the Vantage ST seat from his Hobie Pro Angler and scrambles to the top. There’s plenty of time to drink in the view.
